Earthquake Engineering (EE-UQ) / AutoSDA's default .tcl file

Thanks to Kuanshi and Adam for fixing the way the edps are extracted in AutoSDA! Two additional items to note:

1) The AutoSDA example's .tcl file can have convergence issues. Kuanshi gave me a new .tcl file with [test NormDispIncr 1.0e-3 50] instead of 1.0e-6, which works well. Please update this in the AutoSDA example as well.

2) Ideally, the .tcl file would be stored somewhere other than the AutoSDA example folder, as the current location implies that it is unique to the example. If this could be stored in a more standard location, it would be more intuitive for users who want to start with the example but then modify it for their own application.

Hello,

When EE-UQ interfaces with PEER NGA, does it specify that the suite average should be geometric or arithmetic? The downloaded _SearchResults.csv file does not clarify this in B27, though it always does if I use the PEER NGA database directly.

Hello,

After running the AutoSDA example, the results panel shows the results for each ground motion, with the name of the ground motion. However, when I save the data, this column is all zeroes. Could it be updated to export the ground motion identifier (since the runs are randomized and are not necessarily in the order of the GM list)?

Also, if the save dialog could automatically include the file extension, that would also be helpful. (I think Kuanshi is already addressing this.)

Hello,

As an international researcher, I use target spectra that are not available in EE-UQ. It would be helpful if I could upload a .csv file for the user-defined target spectrum, rather than hand typing the values.

As I tried to work around this, I uploaded a .csv file directly to PEER, than downloaded the results. However, when I uploaded this directory to EE-UQ, it was not able to extract the scale factors, requiring that I enter them by hand. It would also be helpful if the scale factors were detected automatically.

Hello,

It looks like there has been a change to the folder structure since the 4.1 example was written. The elCentro.AT2 file is now located in Examples/.archive/ShearBuilding3... instead of Examples/ShearBuilding3... as indicated in the documentation.

Installation / EE-UQ interface doesn't fit on screen

Hello,

I just installed EE-UQ on a Windows laptop connected to a second monitor. When the interface opens, it is far too large for the screen. When I click the maximize, the interface doesn't scale well. When the log window pops up, it is not centered on the screen and I can't reach the top bar to move it. When the results are viewed, the graph is either too small to see (if the window is maximized) or the window is so large that I cannot see all the features.

Could you give any advice on how to get it to fit the screen better? Let me know if any details about the screen configuration would be helpful.

Another feature that I would start using in September is to include the option for an aftershock flag for the Chiou & Youngs 2008 GMPE. However, based on preliminary conversation with Baker, this request may be constrained by the OpenSHA software, not the EQHazard implementation of it.

If EQHazard and OpenSHA can't handle the aftershock flag, I will need to build my own package. However, I think it is mutually beneficial for this to be implemented by SimCenter.

Thanks for addressing all the recent feature requests I have mentioned. I would like to revisit one from several years ago but which now has an immediate use case for a postdoc project here at Stanford.

Currently, EQHazard can only handle a single scenario for the mean and standard deviations at a site list. For my project, I ran it for 4 different scenarios and then compiled the results. However, it would be a huge improvement for it to run a user specified list of scenarios or all the ERF scenarios.

One difficulty is scaling the output format. I convert the output .json dictionary into .h5 files that are intended to support many intensity measures at many sites for many rupture scenarios. I would be happy to share the format with you, if helpful.

It would be really helpful to have error messages if EQHazard doesn't work. Currently it gives a 0 if successful and an meaningless number if it doesn't. It look me over 4 hours to discover that I had misspelled Chiou wrong in the GMPE name.

The MaxSources limit in the UCERF2 ERF causes odd behavior in the background seismicity. I believe that it searches the sources by index until it reaches the maximum number. However, the index seems to be order South to North, such that the background seismicity is not centered around the site.

I have handled this by increasing the number of sources to a value that does not control the selection. However, it would be preferable to have the background seismicity radiate out from the site, no matter what the distance is.

Currently, the ERF output assumes that the magnitude interval for the OpenSHA catalog is 0.1. Can that become an input parameter so I can decrease it to 0.05?
